What is Medicare?
Medicare is a federal health insurance program for people aged 65 and older, certain younger individuals with disabilities, and those with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) or ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).
What is the difference between Medicare Part A and Part B?
- Medicare Part A covers hospital stays, skilled nursing care, hospice, and some home healthcare.
- Medicare Part B covers doctor visits, outpatient care, preventive services, and medical supplies.
Do I need Medicare Part D?
Medicare Part D provides prescription drug coverage. If you don’t enroll when first eligible, you may face a late enrollment penalty unless you have other creditable coverage.
What is a Medicare Savings Program?
A Medicare Savings Program (MSP) helps low-income individuals pay for Medicare Part A & B premiums, deductibles, and co-pays. Eligibility is based on income and assets.
What is SSA Extra Help for Medicare Part D?
SSA Extra Help is a federal program that reduces prescription drug costs for those with limited income and resources. It helps pay for premiums, deductibles, and co-pays under Medicare Part D.
Can I change my Medicare plan?
Yes! You can switch plans during Medicare’s Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) from October 15 – December 7 or during other special enrollment periods if you qualify.
Do I have to enroll in Medicare at 65?
It depends. If you’re already receiving Social Security benefits, you’ll be enrolled automatically. If not, you may need to sign up to avoid late penalties. If you have employer coverage, you may be able to delay enrollment without penalty.
