Medicare Supplement Plans and Medigap Guidance
Medicare Supplement Insurance, commonly called Medigap, works with Original Medicare to help pay certain out-of-pocket costs. Although policies with the same standardized letter generally provide the same basic benefits, premiums, pricing methods, discounts and underwriting requirements can differ.
Lowcountry Insurance Brokers helps you compare the Medigap policies it offers based on your eligibility, preferred coverage level, enrollment rights and budget. The goal is to help you make an informed decision without treating one plan as appropriate for everyone.

How Medigap Plans Work with Original Medicare
To purchase a Medigap policy, you generally must have Medicare Part A and Part B. Medigap does not replace Original Medicare. It supplements Original Medicare by paying eligible costs according to the standardized benefits of the selected policy. Here is how the payment process generally works:
- A healthcare provider submits a claim for a Medicare-covered service.
- Original Medicare determines whether the service is covered and pays its approved share.
- The Medigap policy pays eligible remaining costs according to its standardized benefits.
- You remain responsible for noncovered services and any costs the policy does not pay.
